by fiona for everyone

Hello all,

I haven't had the chance to get on the forum for a while -work/family pressures.

I have missed receiving the Greekofile book which if I remember rightly was usually out about now. Hopefully it will be out again in the New ,if so I look forward to it.

Today I woke up feeling miserable and longing to be in Greece, we didn't get away in October as we normally do and I am really missing my Greek boost. So in this mood I decided to get onto the Easyjet website and price up flights from Luton to Athens, however I can't find anything for Jan/Feb or March which is very strange as Easyjet flies out daily.

Does anyone know if there has been a change I contacted Easyjet and was told there are no flights for the periods you want-surely that can't be true????

I have been onto the Olympicair site but it seems more pricey than Easyjet used to be and we are looking for a bargain break.

If anyone has any news please let me know.

Hello
do you need to leave from Luton? Otherwise easyjet operates flights from Gatwick and Heathrow in that period.
I also found quite cheap prices with Aegean from Luton.

Do you know this web site?

I think Easyjet only fly from Gawick to Athens in the winter. Look for all London Airports when you search.
You should have received our postal Autumn newsletter at the end of October saying that Vol 8 will not be ready for publication until Spring 2010, and of course we'll be sending out a mailing as soon as the date is known. I'm still working on it (although travel and many other parts fully allocated by now), and have not been able to work on it while in Greece this year as we've been renovating our new house when there, so I only keep up with basic admin.

Try Aegean Air, not as cheap as Easy Jet, but might be cheaper thanOlympic, . and flies from Heathrow not Luton. Worth a try.

from my inflight ejet mag two weeks ago, in the chart at the back, athens is no longer shown as a destination from luton. I specifically checked because I too had been surprised by the result of searching for 'all London airports' to/from Athens for early 2010. Very surprising and very sad, AND likely to push up demand and prices from Gatwick! I think this chart shows all routes regardless of whether they are summer only, so this looks like The End for the Luton-Athens route. Gatwick still has 2 flights per day, the morning flight is no longer 06.30-ish, this winter it is 09.00-ish, with the return at 15.00-ish; evening flights roughly as before. Hope this helps?

Thanks everyone for your help. I am disappointed about the easyjet Luton-Athens route-we have been using this for years. Will have to look at flying from Heathrow now with Aegean air.

Just a thought Fiona - I feel pretty sure that there is a regular train service from Luton to Gatwick, maybe this would help you?

I too was a huge fan of the Luton-Athens easyJet route in the days when it had an overnight flight to the old Athens airport - not only because it was very convenient for onward bus routes! the main attraction for me was that being almost the last flight of the day my whole journey was almost totally Greek-listening-practice, starting with 100% of the queue for the Greenline bus from Victoria and continuing for the rest of the trip. I particularly remember with nostalgia flying out in mid-Dec 1999 for a long millennium break, with a full plane of mainly student-age Greeks delighted to be escaping from a grey British winter for a long Greek holiday. The very cheerful buzzing noise of greeting and reminiscing lasted for the whole journey! There were perhaps a dozen Brits on that plane of a certain age, and maybe some younger ones, but we were totally eclipsed.
And of course in those days one could take heaps and heaps of bags, and go over the nominal limit, with very little trouble or extra charge.................
Anyone else feeling quite emotional about the passing of that era?
